Insert Nuts Brass

Insert nuts are threaded socket like to be used with wood like a wall anchor. They can be inserted into a hole which has already been drill by a screwdriver or a hammer. There are external protrusions on the nuts which prevent the nut from then being turned or moved once in place. Insert nuts are advantageous over barrel nuts and T-nuts, because they can be installed from one side of the work piece.

There are two basic types-

Screw-in type
Screw-in insert nuts need to have a hexagonal with threading on the external side. This design helps in them being screwed in into a predrilled hole. They come in various sizes and take different screw sizes. For example, a "1/4-20" insert nut will take a 1/4-20 inch bolt. The pre-drilled hole must be as deep as the length of the insert nut plus any portion of the bolt that may be screwed past the end of the nut in the work piece.

Hammer-in type
Hammer-in insert nuts are lined with barbs and have to be hammered in to the pre drilled hole. They are also known as knock in nuts. They are generally made of steel, brass or nylon. They are meant to work in wood and particle board.
